Responsibilities:
MAJOR DUTIES

The presence of multiple chronic processes complicates diagnosis and treatment, thus requiring the training and experience of a board eligible or board certified specialist in internal medicine, family practice, or emergency medicine.

1. In an outpatient clinic performs a wide range of medical duties covering primary care and general internal medicine. Many patients have multiple interacting acute and chronic medical problems such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, arthritis and cancer. Examines patients, orders and evaluates full range of radiology and laboratory tests, makes diagnosis and prescribes appropriate treatment to include drugs, inoculations, nursing and dietary care. Refers to appropriate specialty clinic only when required for evaluation and/or treatment. Acts as primary care physician for patients not actively followed in the Internal Medicine or Family Practice Clinics. 

2. Evaluates and treats patients with multiple complicated problems who were screened and referred by the Emergency Room for follow-up by the internist in the Adult Primary Care Clinic. 2

3. Reviews physical requirements and conducts physical examination of various categories of military and civilian personnel. On the basis of established guides as to physical requirements to be met, determines individual's qualifications. May supervise, teach and provide consultation to other health care providers (nurse practitioners, PAs, medical students, interns).

US Citizenship required

 

Board Certified/Eligible

 

Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).

 

Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
